A glowing performance for the performance credentials of Nissan, the Japanese automaker’s engines will power one-quarter of all entries in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In total, over half of all LMP2 cars (13 of 20), including teams by Signatech and Greaves Motorsport, will make use of NISMO-tuned Nissan powerplants. Of note, the Signatech team will be made of up drivers Olivier Lombard, Franck Mailleux and Jordan Tresson, who graduated from Nissan’s GT Academy in 2010 and finished second in the LMP2 class last year. Likewise, on the Greaves Motorsport team Alex and Martin Brundle will be joined by the original GT Academy winner from 2008.
In addition to these cars, Nissan will also field its DeltaWing concept, a test bed for the future of the series and for Nissan product and engine development.
“There is no greater, more publicly-scrutinised laboratory than the Le Mans 24 Hours for the experiment that DeltaWing represents, but the concept will prove that the technology for a vastly more efficient future is viable now, whether the car finishes the race or not,” said Paul Willcox, Senior Vice President, Nissan in Europe.
The 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place June 16-17th.
